What We Do
The Berin Centre is a charity which supports people by providing employment and family services in Berinsfield and surrounding villages in South Oxon.
We provide a space people can come for advice, or just to relax in the company of others. We have professional and qualified staff on hand to deal with whatever comes our way. If we can’t sort it we can always find someone who can. The Berin Centre facilitates community cohesion, breaks down prejudices and supports people who have a variety of issues and concerns.
1:1 Support For All
Our 1:1 careers advice and guidance is available for all, whether you’re a year 10 student or an adult seeking change of career through choice or a change in circumstances. Following from this we provide job search help, including interview and CV tips and learning support for English and Maths.
We offer employment support, and a signposting service is available for those who have gained qualifications abroad to gain a statement of comparability, and to settle into professional life in the UK.
Training & Learning Opportunites
We work collaboratively with partners such as Soha (South Oxfordshire Housing Association) and Abingdon & Witney College to offer access to Adult Learning, Digital Training and English Courses (second-language).
We offer a wide programme of training for students, including an annual partnership project with Williams Jet Tenders to give young people work experience and an opportunity to apply for an apprenticeship with the company. We currently have a number of young people working with the company as full employees or apprentices. We also offer study support for those who are home educated, as well as “next-steps” advice for year 11 students.
We offer sessions to support babies & young children (under five) and their parents/carers. This includes play sessions, health clinics and opportunities for parents/carers and childminders to get together.
We run three weekly sessions of Stay & Play which are open to all on a drop- in basis, a session for babies who are sensory impaired and a group for pregnant mums or those with babies not walking. We also run special one-off activity sessions including “Buggy Fit”, musical instrument sessions and cookery classes (2+ year olds)
Once a week the Health Visitors run a Baby Clinic, and also offer separate sessions on Sleep, Oral Health and Weaning. A Speech Therapist is also available once a month. Periodically parenting programmes and courses are also offered.
Our small local group meets fortnightly over a cuppa to knit, natter and sew. The focus of the group is to make items for those in need and we make a range of items for local and international charities. This includes: teddies for refugee children; “twiddlemuffs” for people with dementia, jumpers for babies in africa, hats and octopuses for premature babies, fisherman’s hats for the RNLI and lots lots more!
Riverside Counselling uses the building to provide affordable BACP accredited counselling and psychotherapy to adults and young people who live in Henley-on-Thames, Wallingford, Berinsfield, Didcot and the surrounding areas. They offer a general service to adults and “The Space” a specialist service for young people.
